Richard A. Scussell, 82, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Kimberly Hall, Windsor, CT. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, son of the late Ernest and Nellie (Panciera) Scussell. Richard served in the U.S. Army, and worked as a truck driver in his younger years and then for the I.U.O.E. Local 478 as a heavy equipment operator. In 1960, Richard met Elvis at his home and was able to converse with him and get his autograph. He had an avid love for flying and was owner of R & M Helicopter, Inc. He received his student license and learned how to fly his helicopter. He would enjoy using the helicopter at Christmas, flying to Stafford in his Santa Clause suit handing out candy to the children. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Tripoli) Scussell; sons, Michael Scussell and Robert Scussell and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle, Ryan, Jessie, and Erin; two nephews; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Scussell. A calling hour will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 10-11 A.M. with a funeral service to take place at 11 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Stafford Springs Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT.
