Edward Allen "Parchy" Roberts, 90, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was born on November 16, 1922 in Stafford Springs, CT, to the late Napoleon A. Roberts and Roseanna (Colette) Roberts. He attended Stafford High School and enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He attended radio communications school in New Bedford, MA and graduated to Navy communications where he was stationed in California. He served in the South Pacific Arena from 1940 to 1945. He lived in Stafford Springs, CT his entire life and married Dorothy G. Piccin in June of 1946. Early on he worked as a constable for the Town of Stafford and for Cyril Johnson Woolen Company until 1960. He later worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT until he retired in 1985. After his retirement from Pratt and Whitney he took a job as the Zoning Enforcement Officer for the Town of Stafford where he served for six years. He also served on the Board of trustees of the Workers Federal Credit Union in Stafford for some years. His favorite pastime during his life was his ham radio shack (K1ALT) that he had set up in his home and where he enjoyed communicating with other ham radio operators around the world for more than 50 years. He enjoyed making furniture in his spare time for family members and would cane chairs and paint them for enjoyment. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Piccin) Roberts; three children and their spouses, Paula and Douglas Gerard of Holland, MA, Jeffrey and Laurie Roberts of Stafford Springs, CT and Anne and Raymond Pierson of Gales Ferry, CT; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Matthew Vail, Tyler and Joshua Roberts, and Joslyn Roberts; and three great grandchildren, Addison and Abraham Vail and Cierra Gibson. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 9-10:30 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT.
